Reducing pigmentation: which treatments actually work?
5 min readReem Beauty, Spijkenisse

Pigmentation appears when the skin produces too much melanin in one spot — from sun, from inflammation after a spot, from hormones or simply with the years. The skin "remembers" that spot, and without protection the mark keeps coming back.
Good news: with the right mix of peeling, nourishment and daily SPF the complexion becomes visibly more even. This is how we approach it in Spijkenisse.
First: which kind of pigment do you have?
- Sun spots — small brown spots on face, hands and décolleté. Respond well to peels.
- Post-acne pigmentation — red or brown marks left behind after spots. Fade faster with cleansing + peeling.
- Melasma — larger, symmetrical patches, often hormonal. Needs a careful, gentle approach and strict sun protection.
Royal Algae Peeling — the all-rounder
The Royal Algae Peeling combines deep cleansing, Hydrafacial + algae peel, LED light and a corn mask in one 50–60 minute session for €150. The algae peel renews the top layer of skin, so superficial pigment lightens and the complexion instantly looks fresher. Expect 2–4 days of light flaking. For real results we recommend a course: 3 sessions for €399.
Oxygeno + Facial Mesotherapy — the intensive boost
Our premium combination for pigmentation and a dull, uneven tone. First Oxygeno for cleansing and oxygen exfoliation, then mesotherapy with vitamins and hyaluronic acid that nourish the skin from within. Together 75 minutes for €250; recommended course of 3 sessions, 3–4 weeks apart.
CO2 Decaar — for dry, pigment-prone skin
Is your skin dry and tight as well as spotted? The CO2 Decaar treatment (45–60 minutes, €100) repairs the skin barrier and hydrates intensively, so the skin reacts more calmly and produces new pigment less easily.
Microneedling — for spots and texture
If pigment comes with small scars or coarse pores, microneedling (€130, 3–6 sessions) is a logical choice: it stimulates renewal and lets serums penetrate deeper.
The golden rule: SPF 50, every day
Every treatment above loses to unprotected sun. Wear SPF 50 daily — on cloudy days and in winter too — and avoid sunbeds and strong sun in the two weeks around a peel. That is how you keep the result and stop spots from returning.
